European TikTok alternative

The European alternative to TikTok and Instagram Reels

spirkz is a short-video app built in Malta, in the European Union, with one rule the big feeds do not have: a video only gets published if it teaches something. The same vertical, swipe-up format as TikTok and Reels, made in Europe, for learning instead of brainrot.

Free on the App Store and Google Play, across the EU and beyond.

Why Europe should have its own short-video app

Short video is the format a generation learns, laughs and wastes time in. Every major feed Europeans scroll today is built elsewhere, answers to someone else's rules, and is tuned for one thing: more minutes. spirkz is the European answer to that, and it starts with a different goal.

Made under European law

spirkz is operated from Malta, an EU member state. GDPR is not a compliance exercise we adapted to after the fact; it is the law of the place the company lives in, and the privacy policy is written from it.

Built for learning, not for minutes

The big feeds measure success in time on the app. spirkz measures it in lessons finished. That single difference decides what gets recommended, what gets published, and what twenty minutes leaves behind.

A company you can actually reach

A European team with a street address in San Ġiljan, an email that gets answered, and a supervisory authority you can complain to in your own jurisdiction. Not a support form that routes to another continent.

Brainrot is a design decision

The word people reach for after an hour on TikTok or Reels is not an accident of the format. It is what you get when a feed is optimised for the next swipe rather than for what you take away. Change the goal and the same format produces the opposite.

  • A feed optimised for attentionRage bait, pranks and reaction videos, because outrage keeps you watching

A feed optimised for learningOne complete idea per video, from someone who knows the subject

  • A feed optimised for attentionEndless by design: there is never a last video

A feed optimised for learningLessons end. Topics end. The feed is finite on purpose

  • A feed optimised for attentionSponsored content and trends decide what you see

A feed optimised for learningYou pick 12 subjects; the feed is built from them

  • A feed optimised for attentionAn hour later you cannot say what any of it was

A feed optimised for learningTwenty minutes is about twenty lessons you can name

  • A feed optimised for attentionLearning is a niche fighting for space in the mix

A feed optimised for learningLearning is the whole catalogue. Nothing else is published

Made in Malta, for the whole of Europe

Malta is the smallest member state of the European Union, and spirkz is built there: a Maltese company, governed by Maltese and EU law, with GDPR as its starting point rather than its ceiling. The app is free on the App Store and Google Play in every EU country.

Questions about a European TikTok alternative

Is there a European alternative to TikTok?
Yes. spirkz is a short-video app built in Malta, in the European Union. It uses the same vertical, swipe-up format as TikTok and Instagram Reels, but every video on it is an educational lesson of 60 seconds or less. It is free on the App Store for iPhone and on Google Play for Android.
Where is spirkz based?
spirkz is operated from San Ġiljan, Malta, an EU member state. Its terms are governed by Maltese law and its privacy policy is written under the GDPR, the EU's data protection regulation.
Is spirkz a European alternative to Instagram Reels as well?
Yes. Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts share the same format: vertical, under a minute, swipe to the next. spirkz keeps that format and replaces the entertainment feed with lessons. If you use Reels and wish it taught you something, spirkz is the European app that does.
What does 'no brainrot' mean on spirkz?
Brainrot is the name people give to the low-value, endlessly scrollable content a general feed drifts toward: rage bait, prank compilations, reaction videos, sponsored trends. spirkz publishes none of it, because a video has to teach something to be published at all. There is no entertainment feed to fall into.
Does spirkz follow the GDPR?
Yes. spirkz is a European company, so the GDPR is the law it operates under rather than a foreign standard it adapted to. You can access, correct, delete and export your data, withdraw consent, and complain to your local supervisory authority. In Malta that is the Information and Data Protection Commissioner. The full details are in the privacy policy.
Is spirkz available everywhere in Europe?
Yes. spirkz is free on the App Store and Google Play in all 27 EU countries, as well as outside the EU. The app is currently in English, with more languages planned.
Is spirkz free?
Yes. spirkz is free to download and free to learn from, on both the App Store and Google Play.
Who makes the videos on spirkz?
Teachers, professionals and specialist creators, each on their own subject. Anyone can apply to the creator program, with or without a spirkz account, and every video is reviewed against one rule before it is published: it has to teach something.

Scroll European. Learn something.
